RAFAEL ALVAREZ won Baltimore City’s Artscape Award for the Short Story in 1994 for “The Fountain of Highlandtown.” His latest collection of stories—six tales about the junkman of Baltimore and his Greek lover, entitled “Orlando and Leini”—was published in 2000 by Woodholme House of Baltimore. Publishers Weekly called it “a rare treat that even those with a non-adventurous palate will find delectable…” In 2001, Alvarez left the Baltimore Sun after some 20 years on the City Desk and joined the Seafarers International Union to work on ships. He is currently working on a collection called Sea Stories. Click Here to visit Alvarez’s website.
